Aloe Vera and Weight Loss – Optimal Health Tips
Weight loss has become an increasingly important element of a healthy lifestyle in the wake of growing obesity concerns. At the same time, aloe vera has found increasing support in literature as a solution to obesity and overweight problems. Aloe vera demonstrates anti-obesity effects and aids in weight loss in several ways.
Improves Metabolism
Aloe vera accelerates metabolism and enables the body to burn excessive fat. The process helps in controlling the buildup of excessive fats in the body and the subsequent onset of obesity. The increased breakdown of excessive fats also assists in keeping weight in check. Studies have shown that aloe vera helps in the regulation of lipid metabolism in the liver and distribution of fatty acids in the body. There is also another study that has demonstrated that aloe vera plays a key role in reducing intra-abdominal or belly fat.
Boosts Blood Sugar Control
Additionally, aloe vera facilitates blood sugar regulation in the body. It particularly eliminates the excessive sugars that would have otherwise been converted into fatty acids and stored in the adipose tissue as fat. Proper blood glucose regulation also prevents excessive hunger or cravings that often contribute to weight gain. Evidence indicates that taking 2 tablespoons of Aloe vera everyday for a period of two weeks leads to a significant reduction in blood glucose.
Side Effects
Although aloe vera might help in weight loss based on the mechanisms outlined above, it can cause several side effects. First, it contains aloin, a strong and naturally occurring compound that acts as a laxative. Aloin can promote the loss of water weight. At the same time, this compound can cause diarrhea, dehydration, and electrolyte imbalance. Aloe vera is also likely to cause abdominal cramps.
Precautions
Caution is advised when using fresh aloe vera for weight loss. In particular, the removal of latex, a colorless part of the aloe vera leaf between the gel and the outer skin, is recommended. This part of the leaf is responsible for abdominal cramps and diarrhea that often accompany the use of aloe vera. It is also responsible for the bitter taste in aloe vera. However, the aloe vera gel is safe for use. The addition of this gel to shakes, smoothies, salads, or soups makes it easier to ingest. One or two tablespoons of the aloe vera gel daily is sufficient for various health benefits, including weight loss.

As a matter of interest where in the world are you? And I presume strongly that you are not associated with any commercial concern? I feel badly for raising the question; maybe somewhere on your blog you write about yourself? Anyway, pleased to be following.

I am not associated with any commercial concern. I am just another blogger trying to provide information that you and I need to lead a healthy life. I actually had an ‘about’ page on my blog, still there on my end. However, it no longer shows on the blog. I don’t know what happened.

Well many congratulations! My wife, Jean, and I are vegans (plus the odd fish from time to time) and do our best to stay fit and healthy. We go to the local gym Monday and Wednesday and I ride my bike every other day. I say this only to emphasise how important we regard being as fit as we can be. I shall be 76 in 10 days and Jean will be 72 in three weeks.
